Fox News on September 11, 2014, reported that the Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s office said on October 11 that President Petro Poroshenko will meet with Harper during his Sept. 17 visit in Canada. Excerpts below:
President Poroshenko is to speak in the Ukrainian parliament.
(Comment: There are many Canadians of Ukrainian descent or origin who were born in or emigrated to Canada.
Around 1,200,000 persons of full or partial Ukrainian origin are presently residing in Canada. It makes them Canada’s ninth largest ethnic group. It gives Canada the world’s third-largest Ukrainian population behind Ukraine itself and Russia. Ukrainian presence is especially strong in Western Canada.)
Harper said in a statement that the visit will provide an opportunity for the two leaders to discuss the ongoing situation in Ukraine, with a particular focus on the steps required to restore Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
The prime minister has been a vocal supporter of Ukraine in its ongoing dispute…
Harper was also the first G7 leader to visit Ukraine when the crisis started earlier this year.
